Komsomolets, a Soviet nuclear powered and
nuclear armed submarine, sank off Bjornoya island in the Barents Sea in
April 1989. Early ROV surveys showed damage to the forward
compartment housing the nuclear tipped torpedoes - L&A formed a
specialist team to evaluate the threat from the nuclear reactors and
nuclear torpedoes, comprising experts drawn from the UK, Holland and
Kazakhstan in nuclear weaponry, marine nuclear reactors and remote deep
