Large & Associates turns down CoRWM Peer Review Work

Following prequalification tendering, the National Nuclear Corporation nominated Large & Associates suitable to undertake peer review work of the radioactive waste management tasks set by the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM).
However, in account of recent events at CoRWM Large & Associates determined that it did not wish to sully its good name and turned down the offer with the following e-mail:

             Ash

Further to our telephone conversation of today, once again thanks for offering to me the
peer reviewing of the CoRWM deep disposal tasks.

As we discussed, I do not now believe it appropriate for me to undertake this work.

To reiterate, recent CoRWM actions (particularly the reported forced and voluntary
suspensions of two committee members and the somewhat ambivalent CoRWM response
to the House of Lords Science & Technology report and debate) have not consolidated my
confidence that CoRWM's approach in determining the UK future radwaste management
policy has been and continues to be entirely appropriate and competent.

Put another way, I really don't want to have my name associated with what seems
to be developing into an utter shambles. I am sorry to disappoint you on this but if my
interpretation of CoRWM's position changes then I will let you know.
