Carry On at CoRWM - John H Large

Critical article on the slow progress being made by the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) over its evaluation of the optimum methods of managing the UK's intermediate- and high-level radioactive wastes and nuclear materials.
In the wake of the House of Lords Science & Technology 5th Report lambasting of CoRWM, the decision of the DTI to go it alone on high-level waste substitution for overseas fuel reprocessing contracts, and the suspension of two prominent members of CoRWM, the article examines how CoRWM has come to be in this troubled state.  Examining the relativistic approach adopted by CoRWM, John Large argues that the contribution of science and technology has been and continues to be underplayed and that the public consultation exercise has failed to meet the primary objective of the committee, that of inspiring public confidence.
